"The essence of childhood, of course, is play, which my friends and I did endlessly on streets that we reluctantly shared with traffic." Bill Cosby
*Childhood development hinges on the aspects of play. Through play children learn and grow to their full potential. Discovering the mysteries of how things work, how to be creative, and how to problem solve all can be found in the play of a child.
"It's never too late to have a happy childhood." Tom Robbins
*One of the great things about child development is the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a child. As teachers and educators, it is our duty to be sure that children have a happy childhood during the time that they are in our care.
"The world knows how to straighten out a spoiled child but never makes it up to a child deprived." Robert Brault
*One of the important aspects of child development is providing children with a rich environment full of opportunities to explore, learn, and grow. Research show that children who are deprived of basic needs and opportunities have a significant delay in development, particularly in the cognitive growth. It is important that we give EVERY child the opportunities to learn.
"Children are likely to live up to what you believe of them." Ladybird Johnson
*One of the greatests gifts you can give to a child to help their development is to have high expectations for them. Children will only be able to acheive what we desire of them, so if we desire and expect more, it gives them the chance to prove they can do it.
I enjoyed reading the quotes you posted, each of them is an accurate portrayal of how children learn and develop.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all the contributions you made to the class this semester. Without the input of so many different views and backgrounds, I do not think I would have benefited as much from this class.
Hi Stacy,
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed reading all of your posts from day one! You are enthusiastic and professional which is an awesome combination. I look forward to what you will have to say on all topics.
The quote I like best from your collection is, "Children are likely to live up to what you believe of them". I know this is so true. I try to push my students/employees/own children to their furthest limits, and then let them know what they have already accomplished is amazing, what they can accomplish is immeasurable. This way they are confident with what they know and dreaming about what they will know. I never want them to feel discouraged because they have not been able to learn something. They should be even more motivated to learn it.
Thanks for the inspiration, I look forward to getting to know you better in future classes!
Blessings,
Sarah Wilson Hyde
Thanks for sharing these amazing quotes. I think we are fortunate that many of us in early childhood get to spend a large portion of our day playing! I also really like the quote about children living up to what we believe of them. This is so true and we have to let them know how important and valuable they are to us. I wish you well as you continue with your education and look forward to "seeing" you in the next class! Have a happy holiday season!
ReplyDeleteHi Stacy,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your discussion and blog posts throughout the course. Thanks for sharing! I loved reading your quotes about children as well! I wish you the best of luck and Happy Holidays!
Stacy,
ReplyDeleteI especially like the ladybird quote. I learned that children have a huge potential and know how to develop themselves, and what adults can do is preparing the desirable environment around them.
Thank you very much for encouraging me by doing quality posts on discussion board and on your blog.
Have Great Holidays!
Aya
Thank you for challenging me in the discussion portion of our class. I find your information thorough and opinions well thought out, which keeps me striving to excel!
ReplyDeleteAlso - I always enjoy checking out your blog site because the colors are so fun. Thank you for breaking up the monotony of website interfaces!
Hopefully see you in the next class!
Dear Stacy,
ReplyDeleteI really do appreciate you. You are one of my inspirations throughout this course. Thank you for being a wonderful resource.
I love your quote by Robert Brault. The world knows how to straighten up a spoiled child but really forgets a deprived child which should actually be our priority. I hope we are able to publish this boldly for all advocates to read.
Have a great holiday and do enjoy your lovely family. Hope to meet you again in another course.
